The aim of this study is to reveal how second level primary education students perceive basic concept and how these perceptions change according to their grades (5th-6th-7th-8th) in the frame of science technology curriculum. For this aim, the participants are asked for completing the sentences like “expansion ....like and boiling.... like and because .....”. In this study, there are 226 students who go to secondary school (5-6-7-8th class students) in the center of Kırıkkale. Qualitative research design was used in this study. The analysis of the data was performed using a systematic metaphor analysis technique. According to study findings, the students have developed 285 valid metaphors in four different categories. These are related with boiling, melt, expansion, and evaporation and condensation concepts under the topic of the effect of heat on the substances. From the 5th to 8th graders, when we analyze the answers of the students, the concepts are more correlate with daily life, environment and the technology. In addition, there is a positive direct proportion in the metaphor of the concepts by using abstract ones. Based on the analysis of the metaphors in the study, the students have alternative concepts in harmony with the literature have been identified. For researchers working within the scope of suggestions were made.
