Hilmi Yavuz, Cumhuriyet dönemi Türk şiirinin bireyci şairleri arasında olup şiirinde ses ve imgeye büyük önem
verir. O, gelenekle moderni bir sentez halinde kullanmaya özen gösterir. Muhteva bakımından eski
şiirimizden başarılı biçimde yararlanan şair, Batı şiirinin de birçok unsurunu şiirine alır. Hilmi Yavuz’un şiir
anlayışında Yahya Kemal ve Ahmet Haşim’in etkisini görmek mümkündür. O, birçok şiirinde tasavvufun
imkânlarından yararlanarak, tasavvufî lügati çok iyi kullanır. Ten Sonnet’si, Hilmi Yavuz’un nefis terbiyesi
konusunu ele aldığı bir şiirdir. Şair bu konudaki düşüncelerini tasavvufî format kullanarak irdeler. Duygudan
çok durumun ön planda olduğu şiirde asıl konu nefsin kontrol altına alınması meselesidir. Dünya nimetleri
kişiyi çatışmaya, mutsuzluğa yöneltir. Bu şiirde dünya nimetlerinden olan aşk, bir kurt gibi tehdit edici olarak
verilmiştir. Nefisten kurtulmak için onu kontrol altında tutmak, etkisiz hale getirmek veya onu öldürmek
gerekir. Çünkü nefis terbiyesi çok zor olmasına rağmen sonunda mutluluğa ulaşmak ve kâmil insan olmak

bir nazım şekli olan soneyi kullanarak başarılı bir sentez oluşturmuştur. Bu makalede amacımız, Hilmi
Yavuz’un Ten Sonnet’si şiirini muhteva ve şekil yönünden incelemeye çalışmaktır.
