The study examined working memory and planning abilities of gifted and average students
from two different types of schools (some participants were attending a differentiated program at Beyazıt
Ford Otosan Primary School and some others were attending a regular primary school). The participants
were 27 gifted and 16 average students attending a ‚Gifted Students Education Project‛ at Beyazıt Ford
Otosan Primary School and 23 gifted and 23 average students attending a regular program at different
primary schools. Thus a total of 89 first grade students participated in the study. The students were
administered the Wechsler Intelligence Scale Revised to determine their IQ scores, the Visual – Auditory
Digit Span Test A and Complex Span Tasks to assess their working memory and the Tower of LondonDX to
investigate their executive planning abilities. In the second part of the study, students attending Beyazıt
Ford Otosan Primary School were divided into two groups, control and experimental groups, matched
according to intelligence scores and planning abilities. The experimental group participated in a ‚Planning
Ability Training Program‛. The ‚Planning Ability Training Program‛ was developed by the first author.
The study showed that there were significant differences between the gifted students and the average
students on the total move score, total execution time score, total time score and time violation score of
TOLDX; on the Aural-Written – Visual – Written subtests of the Visual – Auditory Span Test; on the word
span and sentence – number span measures of Complex Span Tasks; and in all subtests of the Wisc – R IQ
Test except coding. In addition the pre test and post test results of the Tower of LondonDX test showed that
the experimental group attending the ‚Planning Ability Training Program‛ performed significantly better
than the control group on the total correct score, total initiation time score and total move score measures
of the test.

Bu araştırmada, “Üstün Zekâlı Çocukların Eğitimi Projesi” uygulanan bir devlet okulundaki normal ve üstün zekâlı öğrenciler ile sıradan eğitim programının uygulandığı devlet ilköğretim okullarında okuyan normal ve üstün öğrenciler belirlenerek çalışma belleği ve yönetsel fonksiyonlardan planlama becerileri açısından değerlendirilmişlerdir. Proje okulunda okuyan normal ve üstün öğrenciler planlama becerileri yönünden birbirine yakın iki gruba ayrıldıktan sonra birinci yazar tarafından geliştirilen “Planlama Becerileri Eğitim Programı” gruplardan birine uygulanmıştır. Program uygulandıktan sonra eğitim alan normal ve üstün öğrenciler eğitim almayanlarla planlama becerileri açısından karşılaştırılmıştır. Araştırmaya toplam 89 öğrenci (50 üstün, 39 normal) katılmıştır. Zekâ bölümlerini belirlemek üzere Wechsler Zekâ Ölçeklerinden WISC-R Çocuklar İçin Zekâ Ölçeği, çalışma belleklerini ölçmek için Görsel İşitsel Sayı Dizisi Testi A formu (GISD – A) ile Karmaşık Uzam Görevleri (KUG), yönetsel planlama becerilerini saptamak üzere Londra Kulesi Testi (LKTDX) ve kişisel bilgi formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda planlama puanlarından toplam hamle sayısı, toplam yürütme zamanı, toplam süre ve zaman ihlali puanları; Görsel İşitsel Sayı Dizisi Testinin işitsel yazılı ve görsel yazılı alt-testkeri; kelime uzamı ve cümle – sayı uzamı görevleri; okuma hızı ve WISC –R zekâ ölçeğinde, (şifre dışında) bütün alt testlerde üstün öğrenciler lehine anlamlı farklar saptanmıştır. Öntest ve sontest ölçümlerinde programa katılan öğrencilerin puanlarının başlangıçtaki puanlarına ve bu programa katılmayanların puanlarına göre yükseldiği görülmüştür.
