İlk insanlar duygularını ve düşüncelerini anlatabilmek için doğada bulunan
hayvanları çeşitli mimik ve hareketlerle taklit etmeye çalışmışlardır. Bu ses ve
taklitlerin birleşiminden ise halk oyunları ortaya çıkmıştır. İçinde zekâ, yetenek ve
eğlence unsuru barındıran halk oyunlarının kökeni; Şamanların icra ettikleri
ritüellerde kutsal ve güçlü kabul ettikleri yırtıcı kuşların kartalın hareketlerini
taklit etmelerine dayanır. Bu yüzden bugün halk oyunlarında çeşitli hayvan
motiflerine yer verilmektedir. Bingöl’e ait bir halk oyunu olan Kartal oyunu da
kartalın av sırasındaki hareketlerinin taklit edilmesiyle ortaya çıkmış bir oyundur.
Yörede oyunun ortaya çıkışı ile ilgili üç tane efsane anlatılmaktadır. Halk
tarafından yaygın olarak kabul gören ve bu oyunun kaynağı olarak düşünülen
efsane şöyledir: Bir zamanlar köyün birinde zengin bir ağanın sağır ve dilsiz bir
çobanı vardır. Bu çobanın sürüsünün içinde kendisinin özellikle de köyün
ağasının çok sevdiği bir kara kuzu bulunmaktadır. Bir gün ağanın sürüsünü otlatan
çobanın sıcaktan yorgun düşüp bir ağacın gölgesine dinlenmeye çekildiği sırada
açlıktan gözü dönmüş bir kartal o çok sevilen kara kuzuyu kaptığı gibi dağın
zirvesine doğru uçar. Kısa bir süre sonra sürüde kara kuzunun olmadığını fark
eden çoban, dağın zirvesinde uçuşan kartalları görünce hemen telaşla o yöne
doğru koşmaya başlar. Dağın zirvesine ulaştığında ise kartalların kara kuzuyu
yemek için kıyasıya mücadele ettiklerini görür. Kara kuzuyu yırtıcı kartalların
pençesinden kurtarmanın mümkün olmadığını anlayan çoban çaresiz hemen köye
dönüp bu durumu köyün ağasına anlatmaya karar verir. Ancak çoban dilsiz ve
sağır olduğu için olup bitenleri ağaya ağlayarak ve kartalların hareketlerini taklit ederek ifade etmeye çalışır. İşte çobanın bu hareketlerinden esinlenerek ortaya
çıkan Kartal Oyunu yörede iki yüz yıldır oynanan bir oyundur.

Primitive men to describe their feelings and thoughts tried to imitate the animals
found in nature with various facial expressions and movements. The folk dances
had emerged from these combinations of sounds and imitations. The origin of the
folk dances which include intelligence, talent and entertainment are based on
imitations of the movements of the eagle which they consider as holy and
powerful in the rituals performed by the Shamans. So today are given in the
various folk dances animal motifs. Eagle dance which is a folk dance of Bingöl
has emerged by imitation of the movements during the hunting of the eagle. In the
region there were three legends about the emergence of this dance. The legend
which is widely accepted by the public and considered as a source of this dance is
as follows: Once upon a time in a village, there was a deaf and dumb shepherd of
a rich landowner. There was in flock a black lamb which was loved by the
shepherd and his landowner. One day when shepherd was pasturing the flock of
the his landowner tired from the heat and went to rest in the shade of a tree, a
starve eagle snapped the loved black lamb and fly towards the mountain peak.
After a while the shepherd who noticed that the black sheep is not in the herd, saw
eagles flying over the mountain peak and started running towards that direction.
When he arrived to the mountain peak he saw that the eagles were fighting
fiercely to eat the black lamb. The shepherd who understood that it is impossible
to recover the lamb from the clutches of predatory eagle helplessly decided to
return to the village and to explain the situation to the landowner. But because of
his dumb and deaf the shepherd tries to explain the situation to the landowner in
tears and imitating the movements of the eagles. The eagle dance inspired from
the shepherd's movements is a dance played for two hundred years.
