The purpose of this study was to examine the preference reasons of physical education teacher
candidates for choosing this teaching profession, and their expectations with respect to a number of
variables. The study group comprised a total of 179 students (107 males and 72 females) studying in
the first to third grades of Batman University, School of Physical Education and Sports, Department
of Physical Education and Sports Teaching in the academic year 2015–16 . The study data was
collected using the ‘Reasons for Teaching Preference’ and ‘Prudential Expectations’ scales. The
results of the study, showed that the teacher candidates mostly prefer the teaching profession for
essential reasons, that they have positive expectations for the future, and that the reasons these
students gave for this profession preference and their prudential expectations differed according to
gender, number of siblings, and parental educational status; but not by family income level.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, beden eğitimi öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleği tercih nedenleri ile
mesleki beklentilerini farklı değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Çalışma grubunu 2015-2016 öğretim
yılında Batman Üniversitesi Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Yüksekokulu Beden Eğitimi ve Spor
Öğretmenliği bölümünün birinci, ikinci ve üçüncü sınıflarında okuyan 107 erkek, 72 kız olmak üzere
toplam 179 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın verileri, “Öğretmenlik Tercih Nedenleri” Ölçeği ve
“Geleceğe Yönelik Beklentiler” Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, öğretmen adaylarının
öğretmenlik mesleğini daha çok özsel nedenlerle tercih ettikleri, geleceğe yönelik olumlu beklentiler
içerisinde oldukları, öğrencilerin öğretmenlik mesleği tercih nedenler ile geleceğe yönelik
beklentilerinin cinsiyet, kardeş sayısı ve anne-baba eğitim durumu değişkenlerine göre farklılaştığı,
aile gelir düzeyine göre ise farklılaşmadığı görülmüştür.
