Doğa bilimlerinden sonra ortaya çıkan sosyal bilimlerde, yöntem tartışmaları oldukça önemli bir konudur.
Sosyal bilimler tarihinde özel bir tartışmanın adı olan ve Alman Sosyal Bilimciler arasında başlayan
Metodenstreit (yöntemler savaşı/çekişmesi) bu nedenle önemli bir başlangıç noktasıdır. Tartışma sosyal
bilimlerin nomotetik (evrensel) mi yoksa idiografik (tikel)mi olacağı hakkındadır. Tartışma esas olarak sosyal
bilimlerin doğa bilimlerini mi yoksa kültür bilimlerini mi örnek alacağı hakkındadır. Bu çalış manın amacı,
sosyal bilimlerde uzun bir tarihi bulunan ‘yöntem tartışmalar ı’n ı Pierre Bourdieu ve Anthony Giddens ’ın
uzlaşımcı yaklaşımlarından hareket ederek ele almaktır. Çalışmada bu nedenle öncelikli olarak ‘yöntem
tartışmaları’ taraflarıyla birlikte ele alınacaktır. Ardından P.Bourdieu ve A.Giddens’ın yöntem konusundaki
fikirlerine yer verilecektir. Çalışma her iki düşünürün sosyal bilimlerin özel olarak da sosyolojinin yöntemine
olan katkılarının ortaya konmasıyla sonlandırılacaktır.

Methodological debates is a quite important issue within social sciences which have emerged prior to natural
sciences. Methodenstreit, i.e. the term for a specific debate in the history of social sciences which had started
among the German Social Scientists is therefore a significant starting point. The debate is on the question
whether social sciences would be nomothetic (universal) or idiographic (particular). Indeed it is on whether the
social sciences would take natural sciences or cultural sciences as a reference. The purpose of this study is to
discuss ‘methodological debates’ which has a long history within social sciences with reference to the
consensual approaches developed by Pierre Bourdieu and Anthony Giddens. Therefore, the ‘methodological
debates’ is going to be discussed priorly with reference to both sides of it, and then P.Bourdieu’s and A.Giddens’
views on methodology are going to be included. This study will be concluded by demonstrating the contributions
of both scholars to the methodology in social sciences, and particularly in sociology.
