Bu çalışmanın amacı; geleceğin öğretmeni olarak yetiştirilen öğretmen adaylarının öğretmen kavramına ilişkin algılarını metaforlar vasıtasıyla ortaya çıkarmaktır. Elde edilen veriler nicel ve nitel araştırma teknikleri kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada ölçüt ve kolay ulaşılabilir durum örneklemesi kullanılmıştır. Eğitim fakültesi son sınıfta okuyan 93 öğretmen adayına “Size göre öğretmen neye benzer? Neden?” soruları sorulmuştur. Araştırma sonunda öğretmen adayları öğretmene ilişkin 53 metafor ortaya koymuşlardır. Öğretmene ilişkin elde edilen bu metaforlar; itici istenmeyen bir varlık, bilgi kaynağı, hoşa giden değerli bir varlık, mekanik bir varlık, yol gösterici, yönlendirici bir varlık, rahatlatıcı ve sakinleştirici bir varlık olarak temalandırılmıştır. Öğretmen adayları öğretmene ilişkin olumlu metaforlar yanında, olumsuz metaforlarda da ortaya koymuşlardır. Ortaya çıkan metaforlardan yararlanarak geleceğin sınıf yöneticisi olacak öğretmenlerin kendilerine ilişkin olumsuz bakış açılarının nedenleri tartışılmış ve bunları gidermek için çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The aim of this study is to put forth the perceptions of prospective teachers, who are brought up as the teachers of the future, in terms of teacher as a concept via metaphors. The data gathered was analyzed by means of quantitative and qualitative research techniques. In the research, criterion sampling and convenient sampling methods were used. Totally 93 preservice senior students studying at faculty of education were asked the questions of “For you, what does a teacher look like? Why?” As a result of the research, prospective teachers put forward 53 different metaphors related to teacher as a concept. These metaphors gathered in terms of teacher as a concept were thematized as; a repellent undesired being, the source of knowledge, a favorable and valuable being, a mechanical being, a guiding and directing spirit, and a comforting and relaxing being. Prospective teachers put forth positive metaphors together with negative metaphors in terms of teacher as a concept. By benefiting from the metaphors that were put forward, the reasons of negative points of views of the teachers who are the administrators of the class in the future were discussed and various suggestions were given so as to be able to overcome them.
