The relationship between the reason and revelation is one of the most remarkable and controversial aspects of the method of kalam. In the classical kalam books, it seems to be attempted to provide a balance in this issue by separating aqliyyat (knowledge originated from human reason) and sam'iyyat (knowledge originated from the divine revelation). However, it is possible to say that the reason and the revelation, which are two independent sources of information, are to intersect in the context of the prophethood. According to the Maturidis, the prophethood corresponds to the mumkin (the possible field) which is outside of the wajib (necessary) and mumtani‘ (impossible) fields that reason is certain. Hence, there is a need for a source of information other than reason. However, this evaluation from viewpoint of subject and scope of the prophethood does not mean that the Maturidiyya also deals with the prophethood in the framework of mental possibilities as it is in Ash'ariyya. At this point, the Maturidis are close to the Mu'tazili teachings in a surprising manner are to embrace the view that to send a prophet is obligatory for God.
