Kökü Orta Asya Türk kültürüne dayanan Âşık Şiiri; yüzyıllardır birtakım değişimler geçirerek günümüze
kadar ulaşan sözlü kültür geleneğidir. 20. yüzyılda yaşamış olan ve şiirlerinin kaynağını tasavvuf, halk kültürü ve Alevi-Bektaşi geleneğinden alan Âşık Mahzuni Şerif, Âşıklık geleneğinin en önemli temsilcilerinden birisidir. 1950’li yıllardan itibaren ülkemizde başlayan sanayileşme ve köyden kente göç olgusuna bağlı olarak bazı kırılmalara
ve değişimlere uğrayan Âşık şiiri; 1960-1980 döneminde Türkiye’de baş gösteren toplumsal ve siyasi olaylardan da etkilenmiştir. Bu etkileri, Âşık Mahzuni Şerif’in şiirlerinde de görmek mümkündür. Bu çalışmanın amacı; İşlevsel
Halkbilimi Kuramı’na göre Âşık Mahzuni Şerif’in şiirleri bağlamında Âşık şiirinin yeni işlevlerini tespit etmektir. Mahzuni’nin şiirlerinde; “itiraz ve ret kültürü”, “millî birlik ve beraberlik”, “siyasi/ideolojik düşünceleri destekleme”,
“ekonomik kazanç sağlama (meta)” ve “psikolojik rahatlama (deşarj)” olmak üzere toplam beş adet yeni işlev tespit edilmiştir.

The minstrel poem based on Central Asia culture is a tradition of oral literature reached the present
changing dramatically for centuries. Aşık Mahzuni Şerif, who lived in the 20th century, and whose poems originate from Islamic Sufism, folklore and Alevi-Bektashi tradition, is one of the significant representatives of this tradition.
The minstrel poem which was exposed to some changes based on the events started in Turkey since 1950s such as industrialisation, migration from villages to cities and more has also been influenced by some social and political
events in the 1960-1980 periods. It is also possible to see these effects in the poems of Aşık Mahzuni Şerif. The aim of this study is to determine the new functions of minstrel poems within the context of the poems of Aşık Mahzuni Şerif. Five new functions has been identified from the poems of Mahzuni consisting of the subjects of “denial and
rejection culture”, “national unification”, “supporting political/ideological thoughts”, “deriving a profit (materiality)”
and “psychological relief (discharging)”.
