Bu yazıda bahsedilen yanlışlıkların bir kısmı okuma hatasından, daha doğrusu eski yazıyı okuyamamadan doğan yanlışlardır.
Yazının tamamını okuduğunuzda, bir kısmının da doğru okuma çabalarından ve eskilerin koyduğu kural ve alışkanlıklardan
kaynaklandığını göreceksiniz.
Bu yazının konusu, eski yazı ile yazılmış Osmanlıca eserlerden bugünkü Türk yazısına aktardığımız eserlerdeki münferit, bazı
sözcüklerin yanlış okunması değildir. Örnek olarak aldığım beyitlerde şu sözcükler şöyle okunsa diye yaptığım öneriler, o
sözcüklerin yanlış okunduğunu göstermez. Bunlar bir eleştiri değil öneridir. Osmanlı alfabesinin imlasına göre yazılmış olan
sözcüklerin, yazıldıkları gibi değil, Türkçenin ses özellikleri dikkate alınarak yazılması önerisinden ibarettir. Önerilerimin
eleştiriye çok açık olduğunu biliyorum. Ama dediğim gibi, bunlar sadece öneridir. Bu öneriler eski alışkanlıklarımızı atmak
içindir.

This paper concerns (transliteration) errors that—for a portion—stem from misreading or, to be more precise, from
unintelligibility in Ottomantexts. Upon reading this paper, one will see that these errors are the result of effort store ad a
text correctly, and of the rules and practises that have been established by our fore fathers.
This paper doesn’t only deal with the misreading of certain words in texts that have been transliterated/translated from
Ottoman into Modern Turkish. For example, in using couplets that I have worked with as a reference point, suggestions
noting how I think certain words should be read are given instead directly pointing out what has been misread. These aren’t
criticisms, these are suggestions. It has been put forth that these words—which having been written according to the
spelling conventions of the (Perso-Arabic) Ottoman Turkish alphabet—are not as they appear, but rather have been
transcribed as closely as possible according to the phonological features of Turkish. I am aware that my suggestions openly
lend themselves to criticism. However, as has been mentioned before, these are just suggestions. These suggestions are
meant to break away from our old habits.
