Mitler tanrı ya da tanrısal varlıkların eylemlerini anlatan öyküler olması dolayısıyla gerçek ve kutsal kabul edilir. Mitlerde anlatılan Tanrı veya tanrısal varlıkların eylem ve davranışları insana özgü her anlamlı eylem ve davranışların örnek modellerini oluşturur. Mitler önemli kültürel değerlerdir. Bu değerlerin toplumları birleştirme ve dönüştürme, insanların eğilim ve tercihlerini etkileme gücü vardır. Mit üzerindeki araştırmalar gösteriyor ki, mitler (efsanevi ata/ kahraman/figürler) politik ve stratejik olarak kullanılabilir. Mitler politik ve stratejik açıdan kullanıldığı vakit; a) dinî / politik sistem ve uygulamaları meşrulaştırmak, b) farklı toplum ve kültürleri bir araya getirmek, c) hedef kültür ve toplumları dönüştürmek, d) ekonomik çıkar sağlamak mümkündür. Çin mitolojisinde mitlerin stratejik açıdan kullanılmasıyla ilgili örnekler bulunmaktadır. Çinliler eskiden beri mitleri kullanarak politik sistemlerini meşrulaştırmış, farklı etnik grup ve toplumları bir araya getirmiş ve dönüştürmüşlerdir. Taoistler dinlerini yaymak için de mitlerden yararlanmışlardır. Günümüzde mitlerin ekonomik alanda da kullanımı söz konusudur. Bu makalede mitlerin politik ve stratejik anlamda kullanımı ve bu bağlamda mitostrateji kavramı ele alınacaktır.

Myths are stories about the actions of gods or divine beings. Therefore, these stories are considered to be true and sacred. The actions and behaviors of God or divine beings described in the myths constitute exemplary models of every meaningful action and behavior. So, myths are important cultural values. These values have the power to combine and transform societies, to influence people's tendencies and preferences. The researches on myths shows that myths (mythical ancestor / hero / figures) was also used politically and strategically. Such use of the myths may be expressed by the term "mythostrategy”. When the myths is used politically and strategically; it is possible a) to legitimized religious and political system b) to gather different communities and cultures, c) to convert the target society and cultures, d) to provide economic interests. There are examples regarding using myths in terms of strategic viewpoint in Chinese mythology. Time out of mind, Chinese have legitimized the political system, gathered and converted different ethnic groups and societies by using myths. Taoists have benefited from myth to propagate their religion. Nowadays, the use of myth in the economic area is also concerned. In this paper, the using myths in this context and the term “mythostrategy” will discuss.
