The “Kız Kovuu” and “Kelin Kovuu” game, which has a vast and widespread history among the
Turkish people of North and Middle Asia, has been compared to similar and different games by national and
foreign resources. Considering the history of this game and the way it is played today, in this study we aim to
reflect this game in the sport literature in the most correct way we can by investigating the game’s terminology
and economic, social and cultural dimensions. The observations of the style of play and the data that has been
obtained from historical and theoretical information were reported systematically within the framework of a
historical and partly sociological model. The international cultural on the game is rarely seen even today.
Observed with the ancient remains, it has been noted that the game is entirely equipped with the Turk’s
traditional cultural elements (ritual, social, military and economic subjects).
Although this popular game, which has been played by all the Turks in Great Asia, has lost some of its
historical functions, it still portrays the superior role of the Turkish woman in social life and mythology. Even
though it has been harshly criticized by foreign writers, it is understood that the game is an important part of the
Turkish Sports deeply rooted tradition

Kuzey ve Orta Asya Türk halkları arasında engin ve yaygın bir geçmişe sahip “Kız Kovuu” ve “Keli,
Kovuu” oyunu, özellikle yerli ve yabancı kaynaklar tarafından benzeri ve başka oyunlarla genellikle
karıştırılmaktadır. Bu sporun tarihine ve günümüzdeki oynanış tarzına bakılarak; terminolojik, ekonomik / sosyal
ve kültürel boyutları incelenerek spor literatürüne doğru yansıtmak amaçlanmıştır. Gerek oynanış
gözlemlerinden gerekse tarihi ve teorik bilgilerle elde edilen veriler, tarihi ve kısmen de sosyolojik model
çerçevesinde sistematize edilerek rapor edilmiştir. Üzerinde evrensel kültürün az etkili bulunduğu görülmüş,
tamamıyla Türklerin ananevi kültür öğeleriyle (ritüel, sosyal, askeri ve ekonomik sujelerle) donatıldığı tarihi
bakiyelerle birlikte gözlenmiştir. Büyük Asya’nın tüm Türk halkları tarafından popüler olarak oynanan bu spor,
tarihi bazı fonksiyonlarını yitirse de, gerek mitolojide gerekse sosyal hayatta Türk kadınının üstün rolünü
yansıtmıştır. Bazı yabancı yazarlar tarafından ağır eleştiriler alsa da, Türk Sporunun köklü geleneğinin bir
parçası olduğu anlaşılmıştır.
