Kur`an ı - Kerim`de “Yahudi ve Hıristiyanları veli/ dost edinmeyin “ manasında ayetler olduğu gibi, “Kitap ehlinin hepsi bir değildir...” , “sizden önce kendilerine kitap verilenlerin kadınları... size helaldir.”anlamında dost olmayı gerektiren emir ve tavsiyeler veren ayetler vardır. Bu makalede bu iki anlayışı ilk bakışta destekler gibi görünen ayetleri ele alarak, ayetlerde geçen Ehl-i Kitap ve “veli edinmek” ifadesi ile neyin kastedildiği, yasaklanan dostluğun ne olduğu, barışçı yaklaşımı emreden ayetlerin ne anlama geldiği, müfessirlerin değerlendirmeleri ışığında ve tarihte Müslüman - Ehl-i kitap ilişkileri uygulamasının nasıl cereyan ettiği örnekleriyle incelendi. Müslümanlara karşı düşmanca tavırlar içine girmedikleri sürece gayri müslimlerle ilişkilerin Kur'an-ı Kerim'in temel prensipleri ve Hz. Peygamber'in uygulaması çerçevesinde barış ve hoşgörüye dayanır, gayri müslimler İslam toplumu içinde tarih boyunca kendi dini - kültürel kimliklerini koruyarak güven içinde yaşamışlardır.

In Qur'an “O ye who believe!
