Türkiye’de tarımdaki en önemli sorunlardan birisi sulama sıkıntısıdır. Bu sorunun çözümünde akarsuların üzerinde yapılan barajlar önemli rol oynar. Akdeniz ikliminin etkili olduğu ve belirgin bir yaz kuraklığının olduğu çalışma sahasında, tarımda sulama sorununu çözmek amacıyla Simav Çayı üzerinde Çaygören Barajı inşa edilmiştir. 20.026 hektarlık bir alanın sulanmasında kullanan barajın, çevresindeki tarımsal faaliyetlere hem yetiştirilen tarım ürünleri hem de sahada yaşayan nüfus açısından önemli oranda etkisi bulunmaktadır. Türkiye’nin birçok bölgesinde olduğu gibi çalışma sahasında da tarımda sulama problemi büyük bir sorun teşkil etmektedir. Bu çalışma bölgedeki sulama problemine çözüm üretmek amacıyla inşa edilen Çaygören Barajı’nın sahada yapılan tarımsal faaliyetlere etkisini ortaya koymayı amaçlamıştır. Çalışma sonucunda görülmüştür ki Çaygören Barajı’nın bölge tarımındaki önemi yadsınamaz bir gerçektir. Bu nedenle barajın varlığının devam ettirilebilmesi ve su kalitesinin düşürülmemesi için çevre yerleşmelerden gelebilecek olan atıkların, tarım alanlarında aşırı derecede ilaç ve gübre kullanımının önüne geçilmesi ve suyun daha sürdürülebilir kullanılabilmesi için ilgili kuruluşlarca çiftçilere gereken eğitimin verilmesi yerinde olacaktır

One of the most important problems in agriculture in Turkey is the problem of irrigation. Dams built on rivers plays an important role in solving this problem. The study area where Mediterranean climate is effective with significant summer droughts, Çaygören Dam was built on the Simav River in order to solve the problem of agricultural irrigation. The dam is used to irrigate 20.026 hectares of the surrounding agricultural activities of agricultural products grown in the field and also has significant impact in terms of population living. As in many regions of Turkey, irrigation in the agriculture constitutes a major problem in the study area. This study aims to investigate the impact of the Çaygören Dam built in the region in order to find solution for the problem of irrigation on agricultural activities in the field. Results of the study revealed that the importance of the Çaygören Dam in the agricultural activities of the area is an undeniable fact. Therefore, for the maintenance of the presence of the dam, to not to decrease water quality, to prevent the waste from the neighboring settlements, to prevent the excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers in agricultural areas, and for the use of water in more sustainable way, the farmers should be supplied with necessary training by relevant organizations.
