This study aimed to determine teacher candidates’s perception about “school” through metaphors. In this respect, components of
school such as “Teacher, Student, Principal, Classroom, Teachers’ Room, Parent, Ministry of National Education and Inspector” were
categorized separately to determine metaphorical images of teacher candidates about school. The sampling of the study consisted of 346 teacher candidates studying at Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Math departments of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education. This is a two-dimensional research study where qualitative and quantitative research methods are used together. Metaphors of teacher candidates about school were collected through a diagram prepared according to the Lotus Flower
Technique. Findings of this study clearly indicated that Lotus Flower Technique enabled the expression of metaphors by teacher
candidates on “school”, being an effective data collection tool in revealing, understanding and explaining a concept together with its components, which, in this case, are “teachers, student, principal,
classroom, teachers’ room, parent, MEB and inspector”.
