The paper reviews the development of territorial potential, knowledge economy, and its characteristics. Statistics of educational structure of the Russian Federation is researched in this article. Examples of education development in subjects of the Russian Federation and in other countries are in the paper. Tendencies of development of knowledge as a definition during the second part of XX-XXI centuries are reviewed, and on the base of it definitions of “knowledge as product” and “knowledge as cognitive process” are showed by the author. The close correlation of the education level and salary level is explored in this paper.

В статье говорится о развитии потенциала территории, дается понятие экономики знаний, ее характеристика. Приводится статистика по образовательной структуре России. Рассмотрены примеры развития образования в субъектах России, в других странах мира. Исследованы тенденции в развитии понятия «знание» во второй половине XX – начала XXI вв. Приведены понятия «знаний как продукт» и «знания как когнитивный процесс». Проанализирована взаимосвязь образования и уровня заработанной платы населения.
