Öğrenme stilleri kavramı, son yıllarda fen ve matematik eğitimi üzerine yapılan
araştırmalarda en çok ilgi duyulan araştırma konularından birisi olmuştur. Ama aynı durum
sosyal bilgiler eğitimi alanında yapılan araştırmalar için söz konusu değildir. Literatürdeki
boşluğu doldurmayı amaçlayan bu çalışmada, öğrenciler arasındaki bireysel farklılıkları
göz önüne alan, öğrenme stillerine uygun öğretim yöntem ve tekniklerinin sosyal bilgiler
öğretiminde kullanılmasının öğrencilerin öğrenme düzeyleri üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiştir.
Nicel araştırma tasarımı kullanılan çalışmada, Öğrenme Stilleri Ölçeği ve Sosyal Bilgiler
Başarı Testi veri toplama araçları olarak kullanılmıştır. Toplanan verilerin SPSS paket programı
ile analiz edilmiştir. Deney ve kontrol grubu öğrencilerine uygulanan başarı testinin ön ve
son test sonuçları, öğrenme stillerine uygun öğretim etkinliklerinin sosyal bilgiler öğretiminde
kullanılmasının öğrencilerin öğrenme düzeylerinde artış meydana getirdiğini göstermiştir.
Deney grubu lehine artış gösteren son test başarı puanları üzerinde öğrencilerin demografik
değişkenlerinin (yaş, cinsiyet, veli eğitim düzeyi ve veli mesleği) etkili olmadığı ama öğrenme
stillerine göre oluşturulmuş öğretim programının etkili olduğu belirlenmiştir

The concept of learning styles has been one of the hottest research topics in the science and
mathematics education research in recent years. But, that is not the case for the research in
social studies education. Aimed at addressing the gap in the literature, this study investigated
the effects of teaching methods and techniques compatible with learning styles on students’
learning levels in social studies. Quantitative research methods were used in the study to gather
and analyze data. Learning Styles Inventory and Social Studies Achievement Test were used as
data collection tools. Gathered data were analyzed via SPSS computer packet program. The
pre and post test results of the achievement test administered to the students in control and
experiment group have clearly indicated that teaching methods and techniques that address
students’ learning styles are effective in terms of promoting students’ success or learning
levels in social studies. The increase in the experiment group students’ post test scores on the
achievement test were caused not by student demographic variables (age, gender, parents’
education levels, and parents’ occupations) but by the teaching program based on learning
styles.
