Bu çalışmanın amacı, okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin öğretim sürecindeki demokrasi
anlayışlarını incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, deneysel yöntem kullanılmış, öğretmenler
altı haftalık süreçte günde üç ders saati gözlemlenerek gözlemler kaydedilmiş ve gözlem sonuçları
değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin gösterdikleri
olumlu ve olumsuz demokratik davranışlarının, öğretmenlerin mesleki deneyimleri, mezuniyet
dereceleri ve sınıflarında bulunan öğrenci sayılarına göre farklılaştığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Buna
bağlı olarak, okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin demokratik sınıf ortamının oluşturulması konusunda
hizmet içi eğitim almaları gerektiği vurgulanmıştır.

The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions of early childhood teachers on
democracy understanding. Under the light of this aim, the teachers were observed in three hours
within six weeks teaching period, then the results of the observations were recorded and analyzed
using experimental methods. The results revealed that there are significant differentiation
among the positive and negative behaviors on democracy, professional experience of teachers,
their cumulative grades in higher education and the classroom size they taught currently. It was
suggested that early childhood teachers need in service training programs in order to create a
democratic classroom atmosphere.
