This article, based on the analysis of the major works of national and foreign
researchers, attempts to conduct a comprehensive and objective examination of major
historiographic accomplishments on the issue of the civil bringing-up of Russia’s young students in
the late 19th – early 20th centuries. The author provides a characterization of the achievements and
problems of modern historiography in this area, formulates author evaluative judgments and
generalizing conclusions on the subject, and proposes the direction of further research into the
various aspects of civil bringing-up.

В формировании у подрастающего поколения готовности взять на себя
ответственность за будущее Родины необычайно важна роль гражданского воспитания как
составной части целостного процесса становления и жизненного самоопределения
личности, закладывающей основы осознанной законопослушности, патриотической
преданности в служении Родине, свободной и честной приверженности нравственным
нормам и ценностям в сферах труда, быта, межличностных и межнациональных отношений.
В этих целях предстоит дальнейшая ориентация воспитательных систем учреждений
образования, а также управляемых социокультурных процессов на создание условий,
активизирующих проявление и развитие гражданственности молодежи – совокупности
субъектных качеств личности, позволяющих человеку «ощущать себя юридически,
социально, нравственно и политически дееспособным»[11; с. 224].
