Makale Özeti: Bu araştırmanın amacı; Güzel Sanatlar Fakülteleri (GSF) Grafik bölümü öğrencilerinin üniversite amblemlerini değerlendirme becerilerinin belirlenmesidir. Genel tarama modelinde olan araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, Anadolu, Başkent, Dumlupınar, Hacettepe, Marmara ve Süleyman Demirel Üniversiteleri Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Grafik Bölümü’nde öğrenim gören 4. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada öğrenci ve uzmanların üniversite amblemlerine ilişkin değerlendirme ve yorumlarına ilişkin bulgular, nitel çözümlemeler ile elde edilmiştir. Görüşme yöntemiyle elde edilen nitel verilerin çözümlenmesinde ise, içerik analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda, öğrencilerin amblemler ve tasarım ilkeleri konusu ile ilgili bilgiye sahip oldukları, öğrencilerin bir grafik ürünü olan amblemleri değerlendirirken analiz etme, yorumlama, açıklama, görme ve düzeltme gibi bilişsel becerilere sahip olduğu ve uygulamalardaki problemleri görüp, eleştirerek önerilerde bulundukları ve öğrencilerin değerlendirmelerinde uzmanlara yaklaştıkları görülmüştür. Buradan üniversitelerde verilen grafik eğitiminin nitelikli olduğu anlaşılmaktadır.
Alternatif Dilde Özet: In order to accommodate with the developments in communication and technology, people who are critical, can think creatively, conduct researches, can do analysis and synthesize, open to innovations and follow technology must be raised. Education system should have the supporting structure in this way. Art education is significant in this education given to the individual. In graphic design education being a branch of art education, individuals through discovering themselves draw an approach not only adapting to the society with the productions but also trying to shape the society. In this regard, graphic design education plays a significant role in forming social consciousness. Corporations raising designers, educators in these corporations and the education they give are as much important as graphic design’s individual and social effects. Education, which aims at developing students’ critical and creative thinking, should be given on graphic design field. Curriculum should be organized in accordance with the design and in an encouraging way for reading, writing and discussions of world affairs in general. Graphic design has started to define its activities again and in these discussions, it is observed that design is not only a production but also a visual interpretation and a documentation period. A good design education gives the ability to solve expected problems and one of the aims of this education is to provide experience which enables an individual to express himself in different communication media. In case of graphic design education, it is intended to develop a student’s ability which enables transferring a subject to graphics language and conveying a message in a plain and effective way. Therefore, emblems can be named as application areas showing detail purification well, over which graphic design uses indicators with the intention of making form visible. One of the evaluation methods in graphic design is based on potential graduate students’ ability to evaluate existing design. Students’ evaluation of emblems which are graphic productions will show design education’s qualification. This research has questioned to what extent students could enhance their theoretical knowledge to practical and evaluation level. This research is limited to eight universities and their emblems. Method of this research is indirect measurement because it involves individual’s perception and interpretations. There is a limitation in this research as students’ evaluation is unique and their own individual perception is active. Furthermore, there is another limitation in this research as for success criteria similarities between students’ evaluation of emblems and experts’ evaluation were taken into account. Aim of the research is to define Faculty of Fine Arts Graphic Department’s students’ ability to evaluate university emblems. Descriptive survey model was used in this research. Besides, this research is categorized as the general survey model. Working group of this research consists of the fourth-grade Faculty of Fine Arts Graphic Department students of Akdeniz, Anadolu, Atatürk, Başkent, Dumlupınar, Hacettepe, Marmara ve Süleyman Demirel Universities. 156 students and 15 experts participated in the survey. Qualitative research method was used to form the data that were to be used in the research. Within the bounds of this research, a data collection tool was developed to specify students’ abilities on evaluation of emblems and the necessary data was collected through an interview form. There are open-ended questions that will state students’ evaluation and interpretation on this interview form. Findings related to the evaluation and interpretation of university emblems of students and experts were acquired via interview form and its content was resolved through analysis method. The used method is structured interview. By taking experts’ opinions as references, students’ evaluation abilities of emblems were tested in this research. Comparisons were made through discovering similarities and differences between students’ and experts’ opinions. Students’ and experts’ opinions were consulted relating to the evaluation and interpretation of university emblems in this qualitative research. In the light of collected data, it was seen in the evaluation of university emblems that students had skills, similar to experts’. Furthermore, students could carry out evaluation and criticize as such. This result shows that educators could convey their abilities and knowledge to the students as the students had the same perspective like experts while evaluating the emblems and thus bringing students in expertise qualifications. This research, by having students interpret and evaluate through interview method, questioned to what extent students could raise their levels of practice and evaluation and it was seen that students were successful in raising their levels. It was observed in this research aiming to specify the skills of emblem evaluation by the seniors who took graphic training at the faculties of fine arts that those students had the cognitive skills of analysis, explication, vision, and correction while evaluating an emblem, a product of graphics. This research gives information about the qualification of graphic education in Faculty of Fine Arts as a means of evaluating university emblems. It is possible to say that positive developments have been going on as students who graduated from these departments, will represent our country on the field of visual communication. At the end of the research, it was seen that students had knowledge of emblems and design principles. Furthermore, they could see the problems in practices and make suggestions by criticizing and eventually got closer to experts. From this perspective, it is understood that graphic education given in universities is qualitative. In this university emblems evaluation research, it is thought that it will help universities to review their emblems and will lead them to evaluate their own emblems.
