Makale Özeti: The objective of this research is to identify the success of Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners Course Books, (A1-A2) coming forth with their difference in cultural transmission compared to other language sets in regards to cultural transmission through the perspectives of foreign students and Turkish lecturers. Kalenderoğlu (2015:81) states that the Beginner Level (A1, A2) Istanbul Turkish Course Book for Foreign Students is, above all, a product of a delicate team work prepared by the instructors of Istanbul University Language Center (DILMER). ‘Qualitative research method’ is used in this study. ‘Phenomenology’ is preferred as the research pattern. The work group of this research consists of 7 Turkish lecturers working in Tophane Branch of Istanbul University Language Center during 2017-2018 Academic Year Autumn Semester and 19 foreign students learning Turkish in course B1. ‘Semi-structured interview form’ is preferred as a data gathering tool. Data is analyzed for content in regards to codes, categories and themes. The conclusion of this research is that while Turkish lecturers regard “A1 Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners Course Book,” as ‘inadequate,’ foreign students regard it as ‘adequate’ in cultural transmission. Turkish lecturers state that pictures of national palaces and museums in “A2 Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners Course Book” ‘do not interest’ foreign students, whereas foreign students state that they are ‘impressive.’ Turkish lecturers state that Turkish cuisine offered visually in “A2 Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners Course Book” ‘do interest’ foreign students; however, foreign students state that these are ‘not of interest.’ Turkish lecturers and foreign students agree that the unit subjects and the culture to culture subjects available at the end of the units in “A2 Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners Course Book” ‘are not related.’ Turkish lecturers and foreign students think that ‘Istanbul’ is the necessary key element in transmission of Turkish culture ‘in general.’ Turkish lecturers and foreign students agree that fairy tales and episodes in “A2 Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners Course Book” are ‘interesting.’ Turkish lecturers and foreign students agree that ‘Cultural’ elements in “Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners Course Books” are ‘adequate’ in communicating students in common subjects.
