Makale Özeti: Fast improvements in the fields of technology and economy has increased the importance and significance of the education of masses. Especially the the improvements in the field of communication –mainly in the field of mass communication- has enabled the education of ‘great masses’. ‘Distance Education (DE)’ in general as well as the traditional form of ‘Distance Teaching (DT)’ with the support of advanced mass communication facilities has been found to be efficient and effective to fulfill the ‘quantity’ in educational needs. However, in the meantime, the common quantitative needs of the greater masses seems to be met where as the new and individual education needs has emerged. This new form of education from a distance which is called ‘Open Distance Learning (ODL)’ is mainly bringing new debates where ‘quality’ becomes prior to quantity. So the identification of quality in education from a distance has become the core argument of the day. İdentification of quality in DE seems to have similarities with other fields where as the is significant and unique difference are being discovered. The study tries to suggest a series of charecteristic identities to be discussed as for the quality in DE.
