The basic aim of this study is to assess the professional teaching knowledge (PTK)
courses and teachers’ opinions about them. For this reason, a professional skills
evaluative questionnaire was developed to determine teachers’ suggestions as to the
content of PTK courses, their applicability in teaching life, studying the courses at
university, the problems encountered in PTK courses and how to make these
courses more effective. The sample of the study is comprised of 315 teachers,
graduated from faculty of education, at 20 primary schools in Antakya, Hatay.
Pearson correlation coefficient, frequencies and means have been used for the
analysis of the data. Qualitative data have been assessed using content analysis. At
the end of the research, it was largely agreed that the content of PTK courses are
related to the teaching profession and informs teacher candidates about the teaching
profession. Most of the teachers have stated that the content of PTK courses should
not be prepared just only for schools which have sufficient financial and physical
