Anılar, tarih eğitimi alanı tarihinin en önemli kaynaklarındandır. Bu makalenin amacı, Türk kültürümüze damgasını vurmuş ve vurmakta olan kişilerin 1882’den 1957’ye kadar dönemi kapsayan anılarından hareket ederek, geçmiş yıllarda okullardaki tarih öğretmenlerinin sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı tarih öğretimi uygulamalarını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bunun için 15 tarihi okuldan mezun olmuş, 25 kişinin anısı tarandı. 22 tarih öğretmeni saptandı. Her okulun ve her tarih öğretmeninin kendine özgü (sui generis) olmasından hareketle, mümkün olduğunca veriler, özel şartları içinde değerlendirilmeye çalışıldı. Elimizdeki bu anılarla, geçmişteki tarih öğretiminin büyük resminin çekildiğinin iddiasında değilim. Öte yandan bu sınırlı sayıdaki anılar antolojisi, tarih öğretmenlerinin şahsiyeti, giyim kuşamı, sınıf içi davranışları, ders kitabı kullanımı, öğrencilerle iletişimleri hakkında pek çok bilgi vermektedir. Bu anı sahiplerinin genelde tarih öğretmenleri ve uygulamaları açısından kendilerini şanslı hissettiklerini yer yer yetişkinliklerinde tarih öğretmenlerini acımasızca eleştirdikleri görülmektedir. Anılardan anlaşıldığı kadarıyla, Türkiye’de de yılmayan, sanatçı ruhlu, tarihi yaşamış gibi anlatan tarih öğretmenlerinin akılda kalıcı olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Genelde tarih öğretmenlerinin sınıf içinde anlatım tekniğini çok etkileyici kullandıkları anlaşılmaktadır. Öğrenciler, tarih öğretmenlerinin büyük fedakârlıklarla yaptıkları iyi uygulamaları, üzerinden yıllar geçmesine rağmen hatırlamaktadır. Geçmişte, tarih derslerinde Fransız Devrimine çok önem verildiği anlaşılmaktadır. Bazı tarih öğretmenlerinin bir rehber öğretmeni gibi davranıp, öğrencilerinin meslek seçimlerini de oldukça etkilediği görülmektedir.
Bu türden anılardan oluşan bir antoloji kitabı hazırlanmalıdır. Hem iyi hem de kötü örnekleri içermesi gereken bu kitap, tarih öğretmeni adaylarının daha iyi yetiştirilmesinde kullanılabilir.

The memories are the most important sources of history of history education. The purpose of this article is to present teaching practices of history teachers in the classroom and outside the classroom at the past times covering the period from 1882 to 1957 on the basis of the memories written by the persons acted important role in the Turkish culture. To reach out this aim, the memory of 25 persons graduated from the 15 historical schools generally in İstanbul has been scanned. 22 history teachers were determined. The data were evaluated as far as possible in the special conditions with the idea that each school and each history teacher has a unique (sui generis). I do not claim to take the big picture of history teaching in the past by using the printed memoirs in my hands. On the other hand, a limited number of these in an anthology of memories gives a lot of information about personalities of history teachers, their costumes, their classroom behaviors, their using of textbooks, the communication with their students. The owners of these memoirs generally felt themselves lucky in terms of their history teachers and their practices. Some of them in the adult years criticized mercilessly their history teachers. As understood from the memoirs, in Turkey, the history teachers who are undaunted, artistic, telling history as if he lived are unforgettable. Generally, the past history teachers were using the technique of lecture in the impressive way in their classroom. Despite the passing years, the students are recalling the great sacrifices and the best practices of their history teachers. It is understood that in the history lessons, the French Revolution was given great importance in the past. Some history teachers acted as a guidance counselor and affected the career choices of their students.
As a conclusion, the anthology book, consist of this kind of memoirs should be prepared. This book should include examples of both good and bad and should be used for training of future history teachers.
