Bu çalışmada Türk toplumunda tarihi süreç içerisinde boşanma ve aile kurumuna verilen önem, ailenin toplumsal yapıdaki fonksiyonları dikkate alınarak incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın seyri eski Türklerde, Osmanlıda, Cumhuriyet döneminde aile ve boşanma şeklinde ele alınmıştır. Toplumların değişimine paralel olarak temel kurum olan ailede de değişim yaşanmıştır. Aile kurumu fonksiyonlarını başka kurumlara devrederek toplumda daha zayıf daha kırılgan bir kurum haline dönüşmüştür. Bu sonuç boşanmaları daha kolay olabilir duruma getirmiştir. Tarihin öznesi olan insanın bu durum karşısında alabileceği tedbirlerin var olduğu birkaç öneri ile çalışma sonuçlanmıştır.

The present study examines the importance attached to divorce in Turkish society by considering the functions of family in the social structure. The scope of the study comprises the divorce and family concepts in Old Turkic communities, Ottomans and republic period. Family, the basic social body, has undergone changes in parallel with social upheavals. Family has handed over its functions to other social bodies and thus become more fragile. This result has increased divorce rates. In conclusion, the study offers some precautions that human the subject of the history may take against this negative situation.
