The great scientist of East, Avicenna achieved success on the fields of wisdom, philosophy, science, and medicine.
Furthermore, his fame spread across the western countries as it expanded to east. More importantly, Avicenna’s heritage
has been taught not only in Islamic world, but it also has a huge value in European countries. Additionally, Avicenna is such
an important person in the world whose precious writings have been read for hundreds of years.
As a sage and versatile person he took also Ottoman period poets’ attention in literature world, too. The poets mentioned in
their poems and rhymes about Avicenna’s big medical knowledge and his huge heritage. Moreover, the poets tried to mirror
own writings to Avicenna’s poems. There are several stories about Avicenna and his scientific works in certain various story
and tale books. For instance, such kinds of stories are found in Mister Giritli Aziz Ali’s book of “Muhayyelat”.
Avicenna influenced on people with his writings even after his death as he influenced on people when he was alive.
Importantly, the people describe Avicenna as very wise and sage person.
Avicenna’s name is used “Bu Ali” or “Abu Ali” in eastern countries and in literature his name was used as an adjective to
define great scientists and famous people. “The Law” and “Recovery” are some of famous book of Avicenna. Ottoman poets
even used these books’ tittles in order to describe and praise some famous people in medical field. When poets had to praise
any celebrated people, they definitely used Avicenna’s or Lokman Hakim’s names as a laudable comparison. Sometimes they
wrote that chief physician of palace was better than Avicenna, in order to praise the physician.
This statement, by the poems chosen among hundreds of works, gives an opportunity to look at Avicenna and his medical
heritage through the eyes of Ottoman poets.
