Abstract
Islam undoubtedly holds an important place in the history of France. From the first half of the eighth century, the existence of Islam in this country has been mentioned. In 711, the Islamic armies passing the Gibraltar Strait soon conquered Spain and crossed the Pyrenees, entering the French territory. About half a century between the Pyrenees and the Rhône valley became part of the Islamic civilization. In the year 732, the armies who wanted to take this country under the domination of Islam were stopped in Poitiers. Nevertheless, Muslims continued to conquer the south of France for a while. Although there are wars between the two worlds, the mutual relations between the two sides are not interrupted. They even witnessed these relations getting tighter during the time of Charlemagne. On the one hand, Charlemagne continued to struggle against Andalusia, on the other hand, he tried to get closer to the Abbasids, the greatest state of the era. And they also exchanged ambassadors. In this process, valuable gifts sent by Hârûn Reşîd; especially the clock and the elephant left an important impression on the Muslim Orient in the memory of the French. In this period, Islam played an active role in France and the Mediterranean, and at the same time it brought a great dynamism to the region.
