Ortaçağ İslam dünyası ve milletleri, pozitif bilimlerde de beşerî bilimlerde de oldukça ileri seviyede bulunuyordu. Beşerî
bilimlerdeki ilerleme zamana bağlı olarak devam etti; ancak pozitif bilimlerdeki ilerleme yavaşladı ve İslam devletleri, bugün
Batı diye tabir ettiğimiz milletlerin gerisinde kaldı. Görünen kadarıyla çeşitli alanlarda gerilemenin temel sebepleri; kitaba
verilen önemin azalması, İslam devletlerinin bünyesinde olan kitap ve kütüphanelerin yağmalanması, ilme ve kitaba önem
vermeyen yöneticilerin işbaşına getirilmesidir. İslam devletleri bünyesinde milyonlarca kitabı muhtevî kütüphanelerin
kurulduğu, çeşitli seyahatnamelerde ve tarih kaynaklarında bildirilmiştir. Ne acı ki devletler yıkılıp yenisi kurulurken bu
kütüphaneler ve kitapların çoğu yağmalanmış, imha ya da ihmal edilmiştir. Çalışmamızda, Sünbülzâde Vehbî’nin kitap
adlarına telmihte bulunduğu bir kasidesinden yola çıkılarak İslam dünyasında kitap ve kütüphaneler hakkında özet bilgi
aktarılmıştır. Ardından da Vehbî’nin şiiri incelenmiş ve şiirde geçen elli civarında kitap hakkında malumat verilmiştir. Adlarını
bile çoğumuzun duymadığı bu kitaplar, Osmanlı medreselerinde okutulan temel ders kitaplarıdır. Muhtemeldir ki
Sünbülzâde Vehbî de bu şiiri yazarken adı geçen kitapların o dönemdeki genç nesiller tarafından bilinmesini amaçlamıştı.
Yüzlerce yıllık eğitim sistemini sırtlayan temel eserler unutulmasın istemişti. Biz de Vehbî gibi, kültür birikimini aktarmak
adına adı geçen kitapların bilinmesi gerektiğini düşünüyoruz.

Medieval Islamic world and nations had an advanced level of success in both positive sciences and humanities. The progress
made in humanities kept going on depending upon time; but the progress in positive sciences decelerated and the Islamic
states fell behind the nations which we call as West today. The main reasons for the regression in various areas are that
decreasing in attaching importance for books, plundering of the books and libraries within the body of Islamic states,
appointing the governors who don’t give importance for books and education. It is indicated in different travel books and
historical sources that libraries which consist of millions of books had been founded within the body of Islamic states. In our
study, a summary information about the books and libraries in Islamic world is given on the basis of an ode of Sunbulzâde
Vehbî where he made references to the names of books. Then the poem of Vehbî is analyzed and information about nearly
fifty books mentioned in poem is supplied. These books which we have never heard of are the basic coursebooks taught in
Ottoman madrasas. It is likely that when Sunbulzâde Vehbî wrote this poem, he aimed informing the young generations
about the books mentioned. He desired these basic works which supported centuries old education system not to be
forgotten. And we, like Vehbi, are of the opinion that these mentioned books should be known and recognized on behalf of
cultural knowledge transfer.
