n this study aimed to determine the attitudes of the university students family, gender roles and violence towards the women. The population of the research covers the students of Niğde University and it has been constructed via current enrollment lists received from the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs in December, 2014. The lists include the current number of students at faculties, vocational schools, institutes, and conservatory. Based on the numbers of boys and girls at each faculty, department and class, and assuming each class as a stratum, a stratified sampling has been constructed. 10 % of the total number of students in each layer selected by random sampling method and a questionnaire has been applied to this group. The findings show that the students ascribe a considerable amount of value to the family institution. Their attitudes towards marriage, on the contrary, are not equally positive. It has been observed that especially boys on gender roles, gender approach that they have discriminatory attitudes Sexist patriarchal society The students have asserted various reasons towards the reasons of violence against women but the prominent ones described as follows: lack of education, traditions, social values, prejudices of men, and economic problems.
