2009 yılındaki Urumçi Olayı sırasında Çin idaresi altındaki Uygur Özerk Bölgesinde yaşananlar, Türkiye basın yayınında geniş çapta yer aldı. Bununla birlikte dilimizde türetilmiş bir sözcük olan “Uygurlu” yoğun olarak görülmeye başladı. Sözcüğün ilk kim tarafından türetildiği belli değilse de bazı siyasetçilerin televizyon konuşmalarında bu sözcüğü sık kullanmasının ardından, bazı gazetelerin internet ortamındaki haberlerinde bu sözcüğün ısrarla kullanıldığı dikkatimizi çekti. Eğitimli gençlerin konuşma dilinde “Uygurlu” sözcüğünü kullanması ise sözcüğün kullanım alanının genişlemeye yüz tuttuğunu gösterdi.
Yazımızda; internet kaynaklarından elde ettiğimiz örneklerde görülen ve son derece rahatsız edici bir kullanım olan “Uygurlu” sözcüğünün, yanlış türetilen bir sözcük olduğunu, bu sözcük ile ifade edilmek istenen anlamın “Doğu Türkistanlı” veya “Uygur” sözcüğü ile ifade edilebileceğini açıklamaya çalışacağız.

What was experienced in the Uyghur Autonomous Region which is under the administration of China during the Urumqi Event in the year 2009 took part quite widely in the Turkish broadcasting and publication organs. Moreover, the word “Uygurlu” which is a derived word in our language started to be seen and encountered intensively as well. Although the first user of this word is still unknown, after some of the politicians frequently used this word in their own television speeches, it attracted our attention that this word was being insistently used in the news of some of the newspapers in the internet environment. Using the word “Uygurlu” in the daily language of the well-educated young people showed us that the usage area of this word began to extend and enlarge too.
In our writing; we shall try to explain that the word “Uygurlu” which is seen in the examples which we have obtained from the internet resources and which is also quite disturbing word is an incorrectly derived word and the exact meaning which is being tried to be expressed by means of this word could be properly and obviously expressed with the words “East Turkistani” or “Uyghur”.
