In this study, Dewey’s opinions of education have been considered establishing relation with Turkish
education. He adapted pragmatist philosophy to fit education. According to him, education is an action keeping on
during the life. For this reason, performing and living have obtained the most effective learning. The child’s natural
character and, his individual specialties should be taken into consideration and, the focus of education should be
been child, also lessons should be prepared according to his interest and abilities. The child should never be forced
for a passive and without comprehending education. The education program should be prepared for concentrating on
practice instead of theory. The knowledge should never be presented the child with a simple way to be able to provide
his thinking and discovery.
Consequently, Dewey’s opinions suggested important approaches about education and, also they were the
initiator of another new opinion. Thinking again his opinions is important because of serving us a chance to be able
to evaluate our education system on a critical way

Bu çalışmada, ünlü pedagog John Dewey’nin eğitim anlayışı, Türk eğitim sistemi ile ilişkilendirilerek
değerlendirilmektedir. Dewey pragmatist felsefeyi eğitime uygulamıştır. Ona göre; eğitim, yaşam boyu süren bir
eylemdir. Bu yüzden en etkili öğrenme, yaparak ve yaşarak edinilir. Çocuğun doğal yapısı, bireysel farklılıkları
dikkate alınmalı ve eğitimin merkezi çocuk olmalı, dersler de onun ilgi ve yeteneklerine göre düzenlenmelidir. Çocuk
edilgen, ezberci bir eğitime asla zorlanmamalı, kurama değil uygulamaya ağırlık verilmelidir. Bilgiler hiçbir zaman
hazır sunulmamalı, çocuğun keşfetmesine ve düşünmesine olanak tanınmalıdır.
Sonuç olarak, Dewey’nin görüşleri, eğitim alanında önemli yaklaşımlar öne sürmüş, ardından başka
fikirlerin gelişimine yol açmıştır. Onun görüşleri üzerine yeniden düşünmemiz ise, eğitim sistemimize yönelik eleştirel
bir değerlendirme fırsatı sunması bakımından önem taşımaktadır
