Proverbs are as a result of people’s specific experiences reaching the present day, who says it is unclear, gives the advice and guiding slogans. Generally, consists of one or two sentences and it is presented with a figurative narration that gives advice. Proverbs are sometimes compare two contrasting states of an event and place emphasis on the good and sometimes the subject is customized by making parables on frequently used items. Proverbs are expressions that appeal to all segments of society. The events that can happen to anyone in society, important characters and experiences from natural events are the subjects that are handled. Mullahs have been one of the most dominant in the Turkish community since the past.
Mullah; means kadi and great scholar. In later times, madrasah students were also addressed in this way. Figuratively, he is described as one who outweighs the religious aspect. In addition to these meanings, this expression is used for people who are illiterate. This word changed from the word Mawla and took the form of Mullah. For example, Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi is also referred to as “Mollâ-yi Rûm”. In Kyrgyz Turkish this word is said "moldo”.
In Kyrgyz society, mullahs are mostly known as clerics, their religious feelings are strong, and these people are greatly respected by society. In Kyrgyz Proverbs, mullahs are also depicted in this way. But, in Proverbs, the character of mullahs is often portrayed as vigilant, greedy, money-loving people who do nothing without their own interests. In this study, Kyrgyz Proverbs related to Mullahs will be given and character analysis of mullahs will be done in the proverbs found.
