Kâmûs-ı Türkî, which was first published by İkdam newspaper in 1901 and which is
the building block of Turkish lexicography in many ways, is one of the most important
works of Şemseddin Sâmi. Kâmûs-ı Türkî, which has been the basis for many studies in the
field of Turkish language and history, is still one of the source works on which Turcologists
should work. In our study, we examined the words by deducting the note in Chagatay
language in the dictionary of Kâmûs-ı Türkî of the Ottoman intellectual Şemseddin Sâmi,
who is known as Sami Frashëri among Albanians and is very popular. In this context, words
with a note in Chagatay were removed by scanning Kâmûs-ı Türkî. These words were
transferred to the study not according to the headings in the dictionary, but with the spelling
stated by Şemseddin Sâmi in the article. In our study, we tried to reveal Şemseddin Sâmi's
Chagatay understanding in general. Therefore, in the section İfade-i Meram, which he gave
at the beginning of the dictionary, he tried to reveal the form and meaning features of the
words he took into his dictionary in other Chagatay dictionaries by stating his ideas about
Eastern Turkish and Chagatay.
