The objective of this study was to examine the mathematics problem-solving attitudes of sixth-grade
middle school students. To achieve this, the survey method, one of the quantitative research
methods, was employed. A total of 95 sixth-grade students, comprising 56 girls and 39 boys, were
surveyed from a variety of educational institutions. A 5-point Likert-type scale comprising 19 items
was employed to assess the problem-solving attitudes of sixth grade students. The scale is twodimensional, with 10 items in the first dimension coded as factor 1 (problem solving) and 9 items in
the second dimension coded as factor 2 (teaching dimension while students are solving problems).
The results of the study indicated that there was no statistically significant difference between the
average scores of the mathematics problem-solving attitude scale for males and females. The study
found no statistically significant difference between the factor 1 scores of students' mathematics
problem-solving attitudes according to gender (p>0.05). However, there was a statistically
significant difference between the factor 2 scores according to gender (p<0.05). The objective of this
study was to present a guide article for researchers who wish to study students' self-efficacy
attitudes in problem solving.
