The article focuses on the territorial division of the United States to States, counties and municipalities. The existing system is closely related to the law, which may be different in the States. The territorial system influences the formation of municipal authorities, which differs sharply depending on State laws. The functioning of law enforcement is also dictated by the system of territorial organisation: in some States only have a bet tips, combining several functions in other States-a more thorough separation of powers.

В статье рассказывается о системе территориального деления в США на штаты, округа и муниципалитеты. Существующая система тесно связана с законодательством, которое может быть различным в штатах. Также территориальная система оказывает влияние на формирование муниципальных органов, финансирование которых резко отличается в зависимости от установленных в штате законов. Функционирование правоохранительных органов тоже продиктовано системой территориального устройства: в некоторых штатах есть только ставка шерифа, совмещающего несколько функций, в других штатах – более тщательное разделение полномочий.
