The aim of this study is to define the negative effect of the change in the optics curriculum which was added into 9th grade classes instead of 11th grade classes and the understanding level of the target students. This study includes the feedbacks of the physics teachers working in secondary schools in Kırşehir city-center, besides a 63 students group is asked to answer the evaluation test consisting 20 questions on the optics subject. Briefly, through the students and teachers feedbacks it is revealed that the students have difficultly in understanding the subject and there is an obvious decrease in the level of students’ success. It is also stressed in the study that the number of the lessons in a week isn’t enough to cover the subject, using the experiment and observation methods

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Optik konusunun 11. sınıflardan 9.sınıflara alınmasının öğrenci başarısına etkisi ve konularını anlama düzeylerini belirlemektir. Çalışmada 2005–2006 öğretim yılında Kırşehir ili merkezdeki ortaöğretimde görev yapan fizik öğretmelerin görüş ve düşüncelerine başvurulmuştur. Ayrıca 63 kişilik öğrenci gurubuna optik konusu ile ilgili 20 soruluk bir başarı testi uygulanmıştır. Özetle başarı testinden elde edilen sonuçlar ve öğretmenlerin görüşleri, öğrencilerin konuları anlamada güçlük çektikleri, öğrencilerin başarılarında önemli ölçüde düşüş olduğu gözlenmiştir. Aynı zamanda konuların kapsamlı işlenmesi için ders saatinin de yeterli olmadığını ortaya koymuştur.
