Klasik Yunan felsefesinin en önemli sistem filozoflarından Aristoteles, bir yandan doğal eşitsizlik anlayışını savunurken, diğer yandan insanın doğası itibariyle siyasal bir varlık olduğunu (zoon politikon) ileri sürer. Onun bu savları düşünce tarihinde genel kabul görmüştür. Lakin Antik Yunan ve Aristoteles’in siyaset felsefesi anlayışı 17. yüzyıl İngiliz filozofu Thomas HOBBES tarafından radikal bir eleştiriye tabi tutulmuştur. Zira HOBBES’a kadar olan felsefe tarihinde Klasik Yunan felsefesinin en önemli ilkelerine böylesine kökten bir karşı duruş sergilenmemiştir. HOBBES, Aristoteles’e ve onun düşüncelerini savunan geleneğe yönelttiği bu eleştirilerinin yanında, devlet yönetimi konusunda da Antik Yunan anlayışından farklı düşünmektedir.

Aristotle, who has been one of the most important system philosophers in the classical Greek philosophy, argues that the man is a political entity (zoon politikon) because of its nature and there is a natural inequality. These ideas of him have been always accepted in the history of thoughts. However, the political philosophy ideas of antic Greek and Aristoteles have been subjected to a radical criticism by the 17th century British philosopher Thomas HOBBES. Then, in the history of philosophy such a radical stance against to the most important principles of classical Greek philosophy has not been displayed until Hobbes. In addition to the criticisms against to the Aristotle and the followers of him, HOBBES thinks different from antic Greek mentality about governance of the state.
