The aim of this study is to examine the process of “Restructuring of Basic Education” in Turkey in
2012 and changes in the field of education of socials studies within this process. Method of document
review has been used in this study and documents, reports and studies concerning the process have
been examined. In the analysis, besides reform process in our country, comparisons are done by data
gathered in EU and OECD members are included. Within the frame of comparison with other
countries; explanatory results are stated on the stratification in basic education with lowering of
school starting age, and the changes in weekly class hours and curriculum of social studies courses

Çalışmanın amacı, 2012 yılında Türkiye’de yapılan “Temel Eğitimin Yeniden Yapılandırılması”
sürecini ve bu süreçte sosyal bilgiler eğitimi alanında yapılan değişiklikleri incelemektir. Doküman
analizinin kullanıldığı çalışmada, bu süreçle ilgili yayınlanan belge, rapor ve çalışmalar analiz
edilmiştir. Yapılan analizlerde ülkemizde yaşanan değişim süreciyle birlikte Avrupa ve OECD üyesi
ülkelere ait verilerle yapılan karşılaştırmalara da yer verilmiştir. Sonuçta diğer ülkelerle yapılan
karşılaştırma çerçevesinde, temel eğitimin yeniden yapılandırılması, okul yaşının erkene çekilmesi,
haftalık ders çizelgesinin değişmesi, sosyal bilgiler alanıyla ilgili ders süreleri, öğretim programı
değişiklikleri gibi konularda açıklayıcı sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır.
