Postgraduate education is one of the most important step of educating a scientist. At the end of this education individuals are expected to produce new science as entrant scientists. The aim of postgraduate education is to bring in the ability of making independent reseach, the ability to examine the scientific facts broadly and deeply and the ability to analize and synthesis. In accordance with these aims it can be stated that a postgraduate student must have some competencies and the statistical competency is one of them.
In this research it is attempt to define the statistical competency of postgraduate students and to suggest ideas for the solutions. The population of the reseach is postgraduate students of the Eduacational Sciences Departmant in Gazi University, Ankara University and Hacettepe University.
The conclusion drawn from the research is that the statistical competency of the postgraduate students is not sufficient and they have need and demand for statistics education.

Doktora eğitimi, bilim insanı yetiştirmenin en önemli basamağıdır. Bu eğitimin sonunda bireylerden beklenen bilim insanı adayları olarak yeni bilgiler üretmeleridir. Doktora eğitiminin amacı: öğrenciye bağımsız araştırma yapmak, bilimsel olayları geniş ve derin bir bakış açısı ile irdeleyerek yorum yapmak ve yeni sentezlere ulaşmak için gerekli adımları belirleme yeteneği kazandırmaktır. Bu amaçlardan yola çıkarak doktora eğitimi almış ya da almakta olan bir bireyin sahip olması gereken bazı yeterlilikler olduğu söylenebilir. Bu yeterlilikler, bağımsız araştırma yapabilme, alanındaki bilimsel gelişmeleri izleyebilme ve yorumlayabilme, ayrımlama ve bileştirme yapabilme olarak sayılabilir.
Bu bağlamda araştırmacılar bir araştırma problemi çözerken uygun ölçek türleri ve istatistik yöntem ve tekniklerini kullanırlar.
Bu araştırmanın amacı, Eğitim Bilimlerinde, PDR (Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik), EPÖ (Eğitim Programları Öğretimi) ve EYD (Eğitim Yönetimi ve Denetimi) bilim dallarında doktora eğitimi gören öğrencilerin istatistikle ilgili bilişsel alanda bilgi düzeyindeki yeterlilikleri belirlemektir.
Araştırma sonucunda, eğitim bilimleri bölümünde doktora eğitimlerini sürdüren öğrencilerin bilişsel alanda istatistiksel bilgi düzeyinde eğitim gereksinimleri olduğu belirlenmiştir
